Treatment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning
|
Being gay, lesbian or bisexual in this predominately heterosexual society can be a source of pain, confusion, and secrecy. Sometimes it is sexual identity itself that is the source of conflict, or it may be how sexual identity impacts family, work or relationships that is most troubling. Issues related to gender identity and transsexualism may be even more baffling and upsetting. It may be difficult to find someone who is knowledgeable that you can really trust to talk with openly and fully about these issues. Good therapy with someone who really understands you can be extremely helpful in this regard.
Here is what our program looks like:
- First, a therapist knowledgeable and skilled in sexual identity issues meets with you to get to know you as an individual and to understand your personal needs and circumstances.
- Your therapist will take a detailed personal history and work with you to develop a treatment plan designed to address your particular issues and what you want to accomplish.
- Your therapist will provide a very private and safe environment to help you explore your situation fully. S/he will help empower you to act on your behalf to achieve your life aspirations and goals.
- As a result of treatment, you can generally expect to know and understand yourself better and have a clearer idea of how your sexual identity impacts your life. You are likely to feel more positive about yourself, and to feel more empowered to participate actively and effectively in your life.
Sexual identity or gender identity can be sensitive and difficult issues to address. With good therapy you can become much more knowledgeable and comfortable and are likely to feel a great relief with enhancement of self-esteem.
